You forgot to mention the other price to be paid for awd traction.. awd systems are heavy. My former '01 viggen was much lighter than my awd audi. Even with tons of engine mods on the audi, the viggen was very close to matching highway acceleration with just a stromquist chip. I have a ~$4k stasis/ohlins suspension on the audi but the viggen could take my favorite clover leaf at the same speeds (45-50mph) with stock suspension. Heck, even my '87 spg can corner as fast as the 3649lb audi. I can go WOT out of the corner sooner with awd.
There will always be a stigma for fwd's from a dig. Even the viggen had torque electronically limited in first gear. If someone with fwd wants to race from a dig I feel good. If it's a highway roll.. I'm not as confident.:) Either way, it's fun to work with what you have to make it faster.
