Hey man, I hear what you are saying... and forgive me if I missed something in my original post (I didn't re-read it because it's so stinkin long!) but I don't think I ever mentioned any sub 2.0 short times for the fwd stuff. At least not without some extenuating circumstances. Although they can be launched to short times like you mention (See John Williams posts) they do require drag radials. In all fairness though, so do most other cars pulling sub 2 second short times.
I think I actually mentioned AWD cars as being the only vehicles capable of short times at or below 2.0 in street trim.
I have drag raced for 20 years my friend. I got over "dreaming" while "parachute pants" were still selling like hotcakes.
A good running fwd with large, decent, street tires can pull comparable short times to anything else with a comparable power to weight except something AWD that's launched HARD.
I'm not speaking from theory. Again, forgive me if I'm missing something but I think we actually agree. AWD is most certainly the hands down winner on 60' time. I just re-read the paragraph on AWD and I didn't mean to infer that you will ever get a FWD to launch like an AWD with practice. Sorry it does read that way. My point actually was that AWD is the only configuration for track-like street launches. On the downside, as you know, there is a price to be paid for all of that traction. It's about 6-9%of the whp.
Everything in racing is a trade-off! You gotta love it!
