"Water cooled turbo" means the oil cooling the turbo gets to discharge heat through its own water-cooled radiator afterward. The oil cooling the turbo itself is still exposed to very high temperature to begin with, for a very short time period. That's one of the potential sources of carbon particle formation. The other major source of carbon particle from oil is the port holes under the pistons.

Unfavorable chemistry, time and heat are pretty much the name of the game inside a modern engine, tasked to deliver high specific output and conform to myriads of regulations, not to mention making life easier for car owners. None of us preheat engine oil to 230+degrees before starting the car; nor does the car insist on running itself for another 8+miles to warm up fully every time we make a 2mile shopping/commuting trip. LOL. Modern engines are a high-wire act, simply due to the expectations that we place on all of them. Few of us are driving around with 1930's loose tolerance engines that could take all sorts of abuse and still deliver what meager output they did. According to Andrews' studies with the modified oil pan, well maintained engines with regular full synthetic oil changes can still find "coffee grinds" collected on the removable plate, even 3000 miles after the oil pan drop and cleaning! That's the sort of stuff that I'm worried about as my car accumulate mileage.

AFAIK, the oil galleries inside the engine has not changed between B235/205 vs. B234/204. The only significant changes are the piston profiles and the oil pump; so one can only guess that the change in oil pickup screen to such a fine mess instead of the much bigger holes found in earlier engines is due to the new low friction oil pump being more delicate. Of course, it's also possibly an attempt at solving clogged oil galleries near the head reported in some earlier under-serviced engines in the previous generation.

If diesel is not a good candidate for "washing" the screen in-sittu, any insight on what is the liquid commonly used in shops when they do drop the pan and clean the screen? I can think of ways to pump in the liquid and then agitate the liquid sitting in the oil pan ultrasonically, in a process akin to an advanced dish washer or jewelry cleaner.
