Over the years I've learned that Aftermarket pistons/rings are almost Never as good as OEM. True unfortunately.
OEM pistons are made/'held' to a tolerance that the aftermarket will not often equal. When an Engine maker orders thousands or tens of thousands of pistons, their exacting tolerance specs requirements..are.. met, or the supplier goes back to making garden tools.
Fabled Wossners have been documented as being of differing weights..in a supposed set. So much for the German engineering Myth. Been through the cast vs forged piston debate, and kept the souveniers :-)
Educational test kids: plosition a forged piston on top of a 'lowly' cast one in a hyd press. Squeeze them until one breaks... which is ALWAYS the forged one... surprised ? I was :-)
Also forged ones have a greater expansion than cast ones, so very specific piston/bore clearances are needed to fit them competently.
Having said that a forged piston will survive extreme temps longer than a cast one.. Ideal if a AA fueler engine.
