I did this by mistake, but it worked. After I cut my mesh and gave it a little concave bend- I put it against the chrome part and fitted the black part (minus ribs- cut those out- thanks to Dremil)- SNAP (this was a test for fit). No it did not break, but rather snapped into place and firmly sandwhiched the mesh between the crome painted front and the black plastic backing. I tried to snap it back off, but it appears it will break if I do. Good and bad, because although the priming was done- the painting was not.
I used 200 & 400 (metal kind) and to get the "flaking" off and it reveals "hidden" flaking too. 400-600 will smooth rock pits. Primmer will fill in any remaining imperfections. Sanded this to.
This is where the project sits- collecting dust. I suck at finish painting and friend has promissed to help.
Good luck
