I recently tried to help a friend set up an SMBC on his '99 9-5 LPT, which we always assumed to be identical to mine (the serial numbers are only a few hundreds apart).

It turned out to be a nightmare. Half-turn to the right, and he's getting fuel cuts. Half-turn back, and you can't feel the presence of the valve at all. I suppose the design and the quality of the MBC make a lot of difference -- he's got a cheapish T-shaped valve with a short and stiff spring, while mine is a Dawes look-alike. The long and relatively soft spring in the Dawes provides much more room for adjustment. And the JR filter in my car must have been contributing its share too.
