Why a properly setup MBC is better than APC

Don't get me wrong, I think that the APC is good for everyday running but if your chasing performance than a properly set up MBC (read: on a dyno where you can monitor everything) is better for performance. The reason for this is the knock sensor. Its main job to to detect knock, or knocking noises, therefore a certain frequency wich knock usally emitts. Unfortunately, numerous frequencies in addition to typical detonation frequencies are contained within this noise. Differentiating the sound of engine detonation from the noise of valves opening and closing, pistons rising and falling, cam chains clanking and general under-bonnet noises has proved to be the hardest part of detecting when detonation is occurring. While the knock sensor is good for detecting knock once it is moderately severe, a properly tuned mbc can be tuned so it gives boost wich is just under the knock threshold (even the fient knock).
