Hi,
since I dont know anything about that viggen nor the run, might as well ask if you know better.
When was the last time that car was in for service for filter/ plug change.
I know that this sound like a "lame" guestion, but believe me it plays a big role on how the car will perform. For instance Adrian studied how spark plug change affected his airmass under WOT. On the old set (we are talking 10k km driven here, not 50k old plugs) the car could manage not more than 24.45lb/s. Once new set was installed the value was raised to 26.89lb/s. That is a ~10% gain! As we all know the airmass figure/s is straitly proportional to BHP, so you know what that means.
Also notice that if the car has not had some WOT accelerations prior to the strip run it wont perform to its best due to trionic adaption to "city driving". You can look into this your self, drive your car around in traffic for few days and then go out to the highway and measure acceleratio through a give interwal, lets say 100-150 in 3rd. The first run will be some tents slower than the runs that follow.
Also one another thing to keep in mind is how the car aproched the finnish line. We all know a 9-3 will run out of rpms in third gear around 95-97 depending on what tyre is used and do you run the car as high as you can with the risk that you might hit the rev limiter in that gear.
Drew, maybe you could ask the viggen driver what he did right before the finnish line, had he began shifting or was he still flat out in 3rd when he crossed the finnish line? If the clutch is pressed some meters before trap speed will actually be lower due to the fact that there is no drive and the air resistance is slowing you down. Shifting will take ~1s measured from the point when clutch is pressed to the point when speed is greather than it was when shifting began. During this time the car will travel 40m
