You talk of stiffening the front end. Basically you want to stiffen the rear end to reduce under steer. Front springs must be up to the task but don't over do it. Put some grease on the bottom of bumper inside spring & see if it is bottoming out. if so it needs stronger spring, if not it is ok.
What we used to do back when these cars were new (for autocross) was to have someone push down on rear end while we tightened the rear axle limiting strap tight to the axle.
We also ran with a full tank of gas and left the spare in when allowed.
Think 40 lbs air on stock tires and adjust as needed. With tight axle and 40 lbs air, and 1 wheel in air you can jab handbrake to swing rear out when needed.
We also removed the rubber bumper stops under the top front control arm to allow more travel before lifting a front wheel.
Learn to left foot brake, always accelerate slightly in corner, never never lift throttle in corner or shift in corner, power train must be loaded.
Practice, practice, practice<g> If you don't bend the steering wheel you aren't trying hard enough!
There are other things to do but I think this might give you some food for thought.
