Good comments! I did many similiar things. 42psi front, 40 psi rear worked well for me. I cut my springs by one turn and lenghtened the rear suspension bumper to stiffen the rear. At the height of my a/x career? I had 8 x15 Corvette wheels with slicks on the car. The car and I were tough to beat locally and very competitive nationally. I agree with Richie, learn to drive 1st, tires, suspension next. Add power last. With these cars momentum is your friend, learn to be smooth maintain your momentum around the course, smooth is fast!
