I think my hard lines were probably fine--I just did it as a "while I'm in there" sort of thing, as the interior was already stripped and I was taking care of rust on the floor boards. Unfortunately, the numbskull doing the installation (that would be me) reversed the coupling nut behind the swiss cheese and had to redo it after brake fluid stripped off a bunch of the nice new paint I had just put in. In your case, it sounds like you might actually have something wrong there. Everything else I did on the car resulted in a noticeable improvement!
And I am shocked at how well the brakes work, just as a side note. Just like a modern car, apart from the lack of booster and ABS.
