HI, thanks for that, I was a bit fast writing this last night.
I suspect I hadn't gotten all the air out of the system when I refilled it. So this will cause it right? I'll redo that tonight.
The timing may be a little too advanced, I found I couldn't get my timing light to flash at such low revs.
I reckon the hoses are all ok, I'll open up the heater bleed and make sure coolant comes out an dflows strongly, next I'll take the thermostat housing off.
Just to confirm re the water passages, the one of the front manifold passages in nearly completely blocked by teh manifild gasket. I read how th egasket can break down and let water flow causing localised heating, I put an alfoil layer in there to prevent this (with the small hole punched through.
