Hmmmmmm...

New clutch means removing the drivetrain, which means removing the nose and potentially cracking the paint.

So what could really be the problem. Some ideas...

- Bad clutch disk installed (rivets on the wrong side- well known industry probelm). Fix: install new one.
- Worn clutch components. Install new one.
- Worn or bent clutch throwout mechanism. Common in cars of this age. These can easily be fixed.
- Oil on the clutch- new rear main seal.
- The infamous freewheel. Lot's could be wrong. How does the car drive with the freewheel locked out? The fix is generally straight forward- it fix it or lock it out.
- Clutch hydraulics- is the problem a slipping clutch or one that doesn't disengage? If the latter, could be the hydraulics. Not a big deal to fix these. Although the clutch master requires you to have a third joint in your arm- nothing a little surgery can't correct.
- Is it the clutch or the transmission? The latter is bad. A rebuild, that is IF it can be rebuilt, is on the order of $1500 for a guy like Jack Lawrence. Ashcraft is twice that. You should be able to tell from a test drive- whining, difficulty changing gears, all point to the gearbox.

All for now...
