Finally after a few months, I was able to restart the dormant Sonett. It had not been running since 1990. Not that there was anything wrong when it was parked, but there sure was when I received it a few months back.
I bought a lot of the parts from many sources, mainly Jack Lawrence from MSS in upstate New York.
In summary the following was fully rebuilt:
1. Brake system (still waiting on new drum pads from Skandix-anyone know of a closer source?)
2. Clutch. (somehow the throwout bearing wasn't changed, I guess it was lost in the shop, so the car works fine, but there is a little noise when you press the clutch so sadly engine will have to come out to address that asap.)
3. Electric circuit. Wow, what a world of gremlins. Had to open up all those relays, clean ends, and the rheostat is testy (it gets really hot). I can switch from low beams to high beams, but the lever won't let the low beams stay, as soon as I let the lever go the high beams are back on. I do have the driving lights that I can use for some night driving, but being the car as low as it is, I think using the frog eyes is safer. I'm hoping I can fix that.
4. Engine did not need rebuilding, I just changed gaskets and seals, especially the oil pan, the valve covers. I had the radiator flushed. Changed all fluids and oils, and filters. Had the carburetor and the distributor rebuilt.
Just about everything works on the car. The radio turns on on FM and catches some stations. If you select AM you can't get anything out of it. I am guessing either the antenna connection is loose, or there's something worse with it. Of course if I was going to use it as a daily driver I would change it out, but I'm not. I just want it working correctly and I'll add a couple of speakers in the rear. Oh, and the headliner, I had it reglued with thos 3M spary glues, and a roller.
