Try to park your Sonett on pavement or a cement pad area if you have it available. It is the moisture coming up from the ground that does a job on the metal work on the Sonett. I would consider buying a cheap blue tarp and laying on the ground and parking the car on it for the winter. The best solution I have found for stopping rust on cars is to get a garden pump sprayer and fill it with a mix of engine oil and some kerosine so it will spray easily. Spray it right on the rust and dirt, try to avoid rubber parts or cover them. Be sure to pop the rubber plugs in the front and rear of the rockers and spray the with plenty of oil. You will have to deal with the smell for a while, and you will have a dripping problem right after you do it. This will stop the rusting process completely, but you will have to deal with the oil residue when you start to restore the metal. And the spray foam idea is good to plug the holes, but use only the minimal amount needed as it adheres to the metal and becomes difficult to remove.
