I recently received a '73 Sonett. I brought it into my SAAB mechanic and had it checked out and tuned. It needed new rear brakes, a battery and an oil light circut. They did a wonderful job with the car and it runs like new. I have been driving it around for a good portion of the past week and I now have a few questions about the car.

1. The wheel does not center when I let it go. I realize that the sonett does not have power steering but I did find that a little strange. The steering just feels a little tight, almost notchy. I find myself constantly adjusting on the highway because the wheel does not center. Are all sonetts like that?

2. I am also having some transmission trouble. The car does not engine brake! It did for a few days and now it has stopped doing it. I did not think it were possible but it seems to be. When I am headed down a hill in fourth and I let off the gas the orange beast just coasts. The tach goes down to just above 6 and I just pick up speed. When I get back on the gas, the car engages into gear and propells itself again. This happens in any gear without me touching the gear box and it does not have to be on a hill. Anytime I let off the gas the car idles. And it all happens smooth enough to make me think that it is supposed to happen, but I am almost positive that it is not supposed to coast down hills. I have also found that it pops out of first sometimes when I start from a dead stop, but I can just hold it in gear without to much trouble. Has anyone ever expeienced this or heard of it? How is it possible?

3. I am storing the car for the winter in a garage. Should I do anything to it? Take the battery out, put it on jack stands, run some winter coolant through the system? The winters up here in the Lakes Region of NH are pretty harsh. I read some earlier posts about what to do with a sonett in the winter, but they seemed to focus on ground cover and shelter.

So I guess to make a long message short, should my steering center? Is gear engaged coasting normal? and what should I do when storing the car?

Thanks in advance for any help, and please e-mail me or post a message if you have any sort of answer to any of my questions.
