There is a switch at the brake pedal that is activated when the brake pedal gets to close to the floor. This switch must be reset manually by pulling it back out. If the fault is intermittant the cable connected to the switch may be damaged or loose so that it is shorting to earth (the chassi). You may have to remove the carpet and sheet metal cover at the pedals to see this clearly. The switch does not effect the operation of the brakes in any way but does indicate that the pedal travel is excessive.
