Hello Jeff's & Erik. I gave some thought to Erik's problem and didn't come up with anything as clever as your improvisation, but I believe yours has some serious problems. First the Saab lug bolts are 9/16"-12 (12 being the thread pitch, threads per inch) which is a seriously odd size and I don't think any ordinary hardware store will have bolts that size, it is pretty much obsolete. A fastener specialty store may have them or would be able to order them. Second the hole in the rim is about 5-1/8" in diameter, and not even the fastener specialist is likely to have a washer bigger than that on the outside and small enough (say 1") on the inside, though maybe there is a Malleable Iron construction washer that would do. Third, sometimes the Saab drums are quite a tough pull, stressing even a HD puller made for the use, & if corrosion is an issue it is possible to end up only bending stuff. I do not mean to say this can't work & applaud the cleverness. However rather than go to all that trouble without a solid expectation of success I would buy the puller, or find one to rent. Erik let us know how you solve the problem.
