I see a TON of VW TDIs around town here. They're pretty widely known as the best mileage short of a hybrid. While the US doesn't have a tax structure that favors their use, people do know a thing or two about them thanks to VW. I would definitely try to get my wife to think about a TDI Saab rather than a hybrid if they were available. She's all hot and bothered over the Prius and it would be nice to have sporty safer alternative.
