The market is ready for hybrid cars and the market is hot. Since there are very few hybrid cars on the market, now would be the time for Saab to catch the wave. The diesel market in the US is just the opposite. It is not trendy and there is very few people interested. VW has a hard time selling his diesel cars in the US. Just a fact. Does not mean I don't like diesels.
