You hit the nail on the head. My old pioneer stereo had settings where the sound could be made more powerful up front to better recreate the feeling of a sound stage (as if you were at a concert and viewing/listening from your seat). My tastes prefer a more balanced approach and I think you can get a better range of the overall sound when you employ all the speakers. I wonder if the Saab engineer you referred to is the one who invented the optional cupholder for the smart slot (terribly unworkable).

Alas, I guess I will get used to the radio/cd sound at some point, but not the rattling that seemed to remain after the XM was installed. Additionally, I've noticed some crackling (not static) in the sound from time to time (regardless of input). Can't wait to tell the service rep about this intermittant problem.
