Ciao from Italy. I will be laying hands on my European Delivered Saab on Monday. Some answers:
a) the prices are set in stone. No incentives beyond the listed price and travel allowance. And a night's stay if you pick the car up in Trollhattan. How good a deal this is depends on Saab's incentive policy at the time. For some years the incentives in the summer and fall have put IDS pricing to shame, but the 2006 pricing structure was designed to all but eliminate incentives. Whether that holds up through the summer remains to be seen. I suspect that if there is a substantial price increase for 2007, that will indicate a return to substantial incentives.
Options carry about the same discount percentage as the car itself.
Saab says it takes 4 to 6 weeks for a car to arrive after being left on the docks. Note that this also depends on the dropoff point. Drop the car off in Rome, and they drive the car to somewhere in Germany where it gets merged in with other cars coming to America. Drop the car in Gothenburg, and it is mainstreamed with other USA bound Saabs and Volvos. I'm told there are three ships leaving for Newark NJ from Gothenburg in the week after I drop my car there.
I can't speak in general, but in Florence and the Island of Sardinia, the Italians have mostly learned to drive like Ohioans - the big difference is they get into the right lane after passing someone. The other big difference is city driving - more like Boston than North Canton Ohio.
You might consider dropping it off in Rotterdam if you wish to tour the continent - just 80 Euros more than Gothenburg, and a quick train ride to Amsterdam.
The one advantage that IDS has over trolling for end of year incentives is you can select the equipment and color. This is a great advantage if you have weird tastes - like a 2.0T with standard shift and no premium package. There are about 22 of those selected by USA dealers, and none of them are in Parchment Silver over Parchment leather...
