Jim,

I too have seen occaisional the "splotches" on the dash. It appears to be lube coming from the cupholder as you noted. Hopefully its compatible w/ the soft touch stuff =:0.

On the 1--2 notchyness, it goes away almost completely on mine when the engine is warm and if I shift above 3000 rpm (very smooth at 3500 rpm and above), shift in 2 segments w/ a 1 sec or so pause passing neutral, and ease the lever into gear slowly to allow the synchros to do their job. I found it also helps to be sure to shift just after the g force is reduced as the foot is backed off the gas and clutch is depressed (when the car has just crested the peak of the acceleration from 1st gear and is just beginning to slow a tad). Also, shifting very early (like around 2500 rpms also seems to work sometimes). The effect is most prominent where I normally think I should shift in city driving (around 2700 to 2800 rpm) so I try to avoid that. Downshifting from 3rd to 2nd also seems to go much more smoothly if I brake slightly just prior to downshifting (may help the gears synchronize better). Now that ambient temps are reaching the 70's the trans seems to work better than in wintertime. On some winter mornings I would have to put the lever into reverse just to allow it go into first.

On A/C setting. If you go to "settings" on the info display, press the button to open the settings menu, then scroll down to climate control settings (something like that) and press the button again to enter that settings menu, then scroll to "AC mode" and scroll from "on" to "off". I think that's what does it.

It appears the AC system is set up for using the "auto" mode where AC and heat are used simultaneously to get the right temp. It works great but if the ambient outside temps are below 70 deg there is really no need to be wearing out the A/C compressor to cool heated air (though I think it should be run regularly to keep the o-rings lubed). Also, unless there is some sort of auto shutoff of the AC on startup that I'm unaware of, having the A/C compressor engaged when the car is started can prematurely wear out the starter due to the increased load. Thus, it might extend the life of both components (neither are cheap to replace!) to change the A/C setting to off and only turn it on when needed or as necessary to keep it running.

Good luck
Pat
