The factory bumper to bumper warranty is 4 years and the CPO goes out to 6 years from the vehicle's in-service date, so isn't it really just giving you 2 more years of warranty? You have to ask yourself if you think you will have $2K of warranty repairs over the next two years, otherwise the $2K up front was not worth it. Also remember that audio system and OnStar items are not covered by CPO (analog OnStar will no longer function after 12/31/07 regardless). I looked into this while considering buying out my car at lease end since you can have your own car CPO certified for $1600 plus the labor. Since I know the car's history I feel comfortable that I would not have $2K of warranty-related repairs over the next two years. I had all of the remaining little items taken care of prior to the end of the factory 4 year warranty. As long as you are not looking at an early '03 9-3 with auto trans which has not had the coolant contamination issue taken care of, I would say you should be safe with the major mechanical items. This is not a dig at anyone, but some people only feel comfortable driving a car with a warranty and in that case the $2K might be worth it for peace of mind. I'm an ex-motorhead from 20+ years ago (switched over to IT back then) so these issues don't scare me as much. ;^)
