Anders was suggesting that you calculate gas mileage the old-fashioned way, bypassing the computer. Fill the tank until the pump automatically shuts off. Clear the trip computer by pressing CLR on the steering wheel buttons, and clear the trip odometer by pressing the button on the instrument panel. Drive the car until it's down to 1/4 tank, then go back to the same station you used to fill it up (preferably, the same pump) and fill it again until the pump automatically shuts off. Divide the number of miles you drove since the first fill by the number of gallons it took to fill it the second time, to give a "physical" calculation of miles per gallon. Compare the physical calculation to the trip computer's calculation. Then clear the computer and the trip odometer again, and repeat twice more.
