What you are pointing out here is one of the problems with extended oil change intervals.
Just because the oil can make it to 10K miles doesn't mean the same as not checking the oil level for 10K miles.
You should still pull up the dip stick now and then to check and add oil if needed.
But what car owners now do is to blindly believe that the car can go 10 to 15K miles without using a drop of oil.
1 quart usage is nothing over a 9K miles spread.
Keep in mind that the official industry standard is still around 1q per 1500 miles which is kind of insane but that's what they use to determine if the engine is burning oil or not.
