I feel your pain about the 9-3 having it's unique quarks about it. The ashtray is a little bit flemsy I must agree. I have actually broken mine before (warrenty so it wasn't a big deal). Since then I have refrained from using it. I do, however, think they done a great job with the compartment underneath. Works great for cells and other things (like random screws from where I have been battling with my glove box disassembly). I will also agree about the arm rests. I'm assuming you are talking about the plastic piece adjacent to the handbrake. It seems like every time someone touches it, it just comes off, falls off, whatever. I don't know why they didn't just use a solid piece of molding the whole way. I think they say it can dub over for a cd case or something (which used to be reserved for my glove box so maybe an external case would work out good). As for the rattling, I have noticed some wierd noises coming from various parts of my 9-3 as well, but thats what you get when you use plastic. Over time it gets dry and squeeks is the route I am going. I guess it depends on where you live and drive. Most of my driving is on I-40 and I-81 in Tennessee and the state does a great job with smooth roads. I think the truckers rated those two streatches of road 1 and 3 in the nation and I will have to agree. But, when I drove across the country, the western interstates seemed to make the car talk to me a bit more than I would like. Lastly, I enjoy the brake dust. I have the "cosmic blue" color so I think graphite rims would look nice on it so my sloth pays off. At least your wheels are aluminum (I'm assuming) so regardless of how much dust is on them, they can easily be cleaned to look new (for a few miles at least). If chrome, then problems arise quite quickly. I live in a rural area and have a 5-speed so my brakes rarely get used. Judging by you having an 04 with 26k you must live in a city so that is probably a commin problem. I have an 03 with 96k. Regardless, it is always nice to hear people who enjoy thier Saabs, but I do share your opinion on some minor quarks.
