Aero's really don't get THAT bad of city mpg's - I have the V-6 and auto trans, and average about 21, strictly city. Having said that, I take it easy on take-off, and found that if you use the manu-matic and start from second or third gears, your mpg's increase by 2 or 3. I save the times I really want to enjoy the thrust, so that my mileage remains reasonable.
On the hwy, the Aero does just fine - I got 29.5 from Pgh to Atlanta last September, averaging 75 mph. Once you lock up that 6-sp auto it does great!
Of course, the 2.0T is pretty quick, you don't have to hold back much, and delivers great mpg. I had one when my Aero was in for service, cleared the SID, and averaged 26 mpg pushing relatively hard through some twisty's. I was rather impressed. However, once you drive the V-6, you get hooked. Though others may disagree, the Aero is awesome, and worth the difference in mpg.
