Uh, no you're not the only one who see's it but you are also missing part of the picture. Most new Saab's don't sell for MSRP, in fact more of them sell way below MSRP. Obviously the low selling price of a new Saab will trickle down to the used cars. Conversely, many BMW's sell for very close to MSRP and that in turn keeps the resale value of the used ones up a bit higher.
So, if you were to compare a new Saab 9-3 to a new BMW 3-series of similar options, the sales price difference is somewhere around $8-10k higher for the BMW. Now if you compare a used Saab 9-3 to a used BMW 3-series of similar options your see a similar price discrepancy of usually around $8-10k. So what car has better resale value? Well they both loose about the same amount of money (okay the Saab will loose a bit more but it's not _that much_ more) but the Saab driver doesn't have as much money tied up in a car.
Statistically the Saabs have a worse record because resale value is based upon MSRP, not actual selling price. If you look at the real-world, you'll see that both cars loose similar amounts of money. At the end of the day, you should never let resale value be a deciding factor when buying a car; all cars loos money and you should buy the car you like the most and drive it 'till the wheels fall off.
