My experience with the Bose Centerpoint system in my '08 Turbo X isn't thrilling. I finally got the XM people to stop calling me every 2 weeks when I refused to renew the 3month free initial XM service. There were so many dead spots in my area (from Groton MA and surrounding areas). I counted at least a dozen dead areas. My comment to XM was, if this is the future of radio, I'll take a transistor AM radio instead. Never mind the fact that I hated the programming. Too many repeat programs.
Moving on to FM performance, I found the performance to be sub par compared to my previous FACTORY system. Fidelity ranks a B+ compared to A of the previous system. Reception a C. What was the previous system ? Why the Harmon Kardon (sp) in my '01 Aero Wagon. It's FM performance was stellar given it had diversity tuning (two tuners/antennas). Reception stability was great and it's ability to pull in distant stations was amazing. The Bose setup appears to loose about 30% of the range. The dealer has checked everything and says its working fine. Man I wish Bose would stick to amps and speakers and let the real pro's do reception.
I cringe at the different audio input levels when I go between AUX(iPod) and FM and CD's. I hear GM is working on a fix for this but its been a long time.
Overall, if I stick to one source for a long time I tolerate the unit. Sometimes even the fidelity is good. I don't like the potential thought of having to replace the whole setup to get the fidelity im use to. Funny thing is my '93 9000 had a custom 10K system from Rich's Car Tunes that I miss dearly. The Aero Wagon's sound was so good that I never pursued any upgrades. Too bad I didn't budget more $$ to call Rich's again. Then again, his stuff probably costs $20K now.
