Your concerns over Aero mileage are the reason I don't buy one as I don't think gas will be around $2/gallon forever. Either via the market or through higher taxes I see it going back to the $4+ range.
To enhance your gas mileage, have you used the autostick to get into higher gears sooner? I rented an autostick recently (not a Saab) and I noticed it held in 4th a lot longer than I felt was necessary so I shifter it into 5th and saw the RPMs drop a bunch. Just an idea...
Also, check to see that your AC is not engaged even though you just might have the heater on. I notice that on my 2.0T and manually turn the AC off and I can feel a very slight decrease in engine 'drag.' Don't think this is going to get you even one mpg but no need to drag around an AC compressor if you don't have to.
