The factory GPS is a disappointment Posted by Saabpilot [Email] (#134) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saabpilot) on Sat, 2 May 2009 19:57:21 In Reply to: Stereo, GPS and upgrade options .., Paul from NJ, Fri, 1 May 2009 20:03:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have an '08 9-3 Aero with the factory Infotainment, aka GPS.
I searched long and hard for a car with the built in GPS because I use the car for business and frequently go to unfamiliar addresses. I was also turned off by the standard GM stereo, which is the same unit in many Chevy Impalas I've rented for business over the years.
It's great having a built-in GPS unit, but this one leaves alot to be desired, and I mean alot. It's routings are downright screwy. The audio does not mute the stereo. Supposedly it mutes it a bit, but I've found that only if my stereo volume is very loud will the audio instructions from the GPS mute the stereo, and it's only a little bit. I don't know what company GM used to design this unit, but it doesn't hold a candle to my portable Garmin C550. Not even close. If mine were not a business leased car, I would really be angry about spending the money to get the factory GPS. So, for my two cents worth you should look for an aftermarket unit. I'd love to see photos and such if you install one.
