Tire rack wants $300 for additional tire pressure units to place inside the tire/wheel. If I understand correctly, the car itself must be taken to someone with Saab computer interface to program in the new units. An additional charge.

Or, you can put in the units from your stock wheels, but that means dismounting both summer and winter tires.

Or, third choice, do not put in monitors. You will get an error message on the dash every time the car is driven. Unless your are in Europe, instead of North America, in which case the car's computer will switch to winter mode, recognizing that there are four wheels without monitor modules resulting in no error message. This option is not permitted in North America because of the regulatory requirement that there be modules fitted.

I am facing the same dilemma. With my last 9-3, I used a separate set of wheel for my snow tires. Do I dispense with that this year and mount the snows, and dismount the snows, with each change of season, or put up with the PITA messages or what. $300 AND a visit to the dealer is a bit much to swallow for someone who has always checked pressures. One wonders why the CPU in the car does not simply pick up the fact that there are different modules mounted on the car, obviating the bother, and expense, of a visit to the dealer. The price of these modules will hopefully come down in the future.
