My story.. I had my Saab 9-3 arc 2003 die on me as I was going home. Able to jump it and get the car where it need to be. I changed out the Alternator w/rebuilt one(twice) didn't work. So I called a local used car parts dealer and bought a Alternator for $50.00. Put that in and the car worked great and the battery was finally charging:-) I have been driving the car for about 1-1/2 weeks and then today at work I started the car and I heard a weird noise from under the hood.. Well,, My Alternator belt was splitting and a chunk of belt was flapping about.. Called Napa and asked about a new belt. They told me that there was different belts with 5 or 6 grooves on them.. My question is:: Might the Alternator I purchased have the wrong amount of grooves on the pulley than the old Alternator?? Or is it possible that the belt just went because of some coolant that spilled out as I was changing the Alternator and was allowed to sit for awhile before the Alternator got changed.. I can still see a bit of coolant that is left on the belt and tensioner.. Any ideas???
