Hi,
Part 1,I have a 2004, 93,aero with the automatic transmission, paddle shifters. The problem started yesterday and appears to be periodic. This morning when shifting from park to drive, there seemed to be hesitation before moving forward up my hill. On my way to work(95,north) I went to power thru a lane change and the transmission clearly slipped.(gear dropped, rpms went up but no engagment) This car is new to me and I have been going thru it(has 104k) I have done some researching and it seems as if I may simply need a fluid change?(I am nervous as I would think I am long overdue.) Part 2, I called saab/cadilliac here in norwood ,ma, and was told a fluid change is $265. To me, that would not get all the junkie fluid out. I also read here in a thread that I could use toyota type IV trans fluid in my transmission.(I am told it is only like 5 bucks a qt) If this is the case would I be better off running the toyota type IV fluid for 100 miles or so and then change it out on my own again using the saab fluid to get a true flush out of it(I figure there is junk in the converter etc which will mix in with the new fluid) Part 3, is changing the transmission fluid something I can take on in my driveway? If so what is the best way to go about it, and what are the capacities etc. Thanks in advance.
