I read on the other Saab board referenced you tried to fit a Caddy purge valve, not the Saab unit. So by fitting a new Saab purge valve it should resolve your P0496 code. Even though electronic parts look the same, they can be different internally, in operation, or by electronic signal required for operation/feedback to ECM.
The ESP failure can occur for many different reasons (internal fault within CIM, ABS wheel speed sensor, ME9 ECM fault, etc etc) and will require a Saab Tech 2 w CanDi for correct fault diagnostics. Time to hunt down a Saab dealer or Saab Indy shop and have them scan the vehicle for you.
