I put the old original filter back (fortunately I kept it), and so far, no problems. I did notice a slight drop in rpm's a couple of times, but it didn't stall. I guess I don't get it. I used a K&N in my former Saab (a 1997 900s non turbo 5-speed), and never had a problem. The filter I put in my 2009 9-3 was a brand new one, so it wasn't re-oiled. I guess i'll have to stick to paper filters. I'm out $50 for the K&N.
I like Ander's idea about cleaning the sensor, although i've never done it before, and have a couple of questions about it. First, is it the rectangular piece that sticks into the hose after the air filter box? If so, do you need to remove it to spray the cleaning solution on it, or can you leave it in? It looks like there are two screws holding in in place. How about removing the wires? It looks like there's some kind of clip that needs to be removed (how?) Is there a write-up someware on how to do this?
Thanks again,
Mike.
