Cabin Filter Housing: tech tips Posted by MC [Email] (#1472) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MC) on Thu, 21 Feb 2013 08:29:54 In Reply to: Everybody Check Your Cabin Filter Housing for Leakage, SaabAficionado [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 21 Feb 2013 05:47:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
First of all: Keep the cowling drain clear of debris! There is a rubber spout that drains water from the windshield cowling area down into the engine compartment just forward of the cabin filter housings. Its prone to clog up. And fairly easy to routinely check as it can be cleaned without removing the windshield wipers or cowling cover.
Second. In a last resort to prevent water from dripping down into the air-box housing and onto the blower motor, you can drill some small holes in the Cabin filter housing gutter. The place to drill is on the bottom of the plastic gutter just forward of where the filter sits. This will allow any excess water/moisture that might want to pool up in the filter housing to drain down into the cowling and hopefully continue on its way out the drain spout.
I've seen this particular water leak get soooo bad (and ignored for so long!) by some owners that it begins to fill the passenger floor boards with water (this is long after the blower stopped working btw) and moisture and mold begin to dominate the vehicle interior. Absolute shame.
