Do you, or the attendant "top off" the tank when refuelling?
(meaning the pump runs, then stops automatically, and you squeeze another gallon or so into it...)
I've been reading recently that with newish cars (like 2000-), topping up is especially NOT recommended. This has to do with the vapor recovery system for refueling. Basically, after years of experimenting, they found out that pump-based recovery systems either don't work, don't work well, or can easily be subverted (ask me about filling a 1980 99 sedan with one of those cockamamie systems). So, they started putting the vapor recovery on the CAR side. It is called Onboard Refueling Vapor Revocery (ORVR). ORVR has been required since 2006, but Saabs have had it since before that date. Most, if not all, 9-5s imported have it (my 99 & 00 both do).
This is different from, but similar in function to, the EVAP system.
By topping up, you risk getting liquid fuel up into the recovery system, which is not good for it, and may cause problems like you describe.
So, first thing to try is NOT to top up the next time you fill up. When the pump shuts off, that's it. Stop. You're done (unless, of course, it shuts off prematurely, like at 1/2 tank...).
But if you're not topping up, then I'm not so sure...
