Pretty much all cars from the late 90s and up have some kind of restriction and back flow valves and it is very difficult to get past those with some kind of hose.
In the 9-3 Sport Sedan it is a spring loaded plastic plug that shuts off the filler hole when gas is not flowing down the pipe.
The space between the filler pipe and that plastic plug is so small that only a very thin rubber hose could be pushed by it and then only when when the filler pipe is removed from tank since you would not be able to snake that thin hose all the way down from up on the fender.
I just now looked at a 05 9-3 tank I have on the floor for a pump replacement.
You also run the risk of damaging that plastic plug and spring system if you jam something down there so the best advice is to stay away from it all together.
