Well, the job is easier than I thought. No need, and no place, for a spring compressor. All you need to do is support the rear lower arm when you unbolt the lower bolts for the shock absorber and the lower arm. After that, it's only a matter of pushing down on that arm to release the spring. Very easy job, done outside in the driveway at freezing point.

The 325 lbs 12in x 2.5in spring are perfect for my car, an XWD wagon. Ride height is back at 380 mm, exactly like stock. I was wondering how 325 lbs springs can do the same job as 185 lbs springs and 200 lbs shocks, but it is a question of leverage. The springs are mounted inboard, when the shocks are closer to the wheel. Now, I just hope the stiffer spring doesn't bend the aluminum lower arm, or accelerate wear on its bushings.

Overall, the rear end is a bit firmer than stock with the Bilstein B6 and these springs. That was expected. If you want to go that route and keep the stock suspension compliance, I would recommend Bilstein B4, Monroe, or Sachs shocks. You can even order 13in springs with a lower rate, like 275 lbs/in, and they will fit. Stock springs are 13in long.

So, overall, I'm at 700$CDN for Summit springs (80$), OEM Lacrosse spring insulators (70$), Bilstein shocks, and OEM rear upper shock mounts (520$). That's less than 1/3 of the price of 2 new Nivomats (2350$CDN at dealer, 1500$CDN if ordered from the web). Ordering online is cheaper, but I had no time to wait. Last Sunday was the first of my annual ice track days at Mecaglisse, no way I'd miss that for a blown shock...

As would Edd China say : Result !
