A week and a half later, but only ~150 miles of driving. Maybe a coincidence but maybe related too. I am planning to send the shop a polite heads-up about the issue just in case Step 1 and Step 2 don't eliminate a recurrence of the CEL.
Step 1 is clear the code (already done) and monitor for return, being sure gas cap is securely tightened each fill-up. My wife did the latest fill-up (a rarity) and early arthritis affects her hand/wrist twisting strength.
Step 2 is replacement of the gas cap as it is 10 years old and these caps have a somewhat damaged reputation for sealing well.
