It sounds like you've got a honest shop to do your work and that's half the battle. There are two evap related connections that are accessible from below the car without removing the tank; one by the rear of the tank that runs alongside the fuel-filler neck and one on the front corner of the tank that runs to the engine alongside the fuel supply/return lines. These connections just push in without tools and it would be easy enough to forget to fully seat one.
