Brake pedal is notoriously soft on these 9-3 and you can technically push the pedal to the floor when standing still idling.

Still it feels normal when driving.

But the other thing that can happen is that O-rings inside ABS valve body start to leak through.
You should have your mechanic check for leak through according to WIS brake test using the two test ports under black rubber caps on valve body.

Use of different brand brake pads can also change brake feel.
