Bad sunroof motor 1 Saabers Like This Post! Apparently it took a while to diagnose and determine the exact cause, but replacing the sunroof motor has cured the problem. The shop had a used motor available so the total price is far less than the cost of a new full replacement mechanism!
The shop owner who did the repair said this is only the second sunroof motor he has ever had to replace. The first was a warranty replacement while he was working at the Local Dealership. Obviously a very rare problem - which is good since a full new sunroof mechanism, including the glass panel, lists for ~$1,800. New motors are ~$375 or ~$450 depending if the car is equipped with Comfort Close.
