I can read the codes at home. Luckily the car cooperated and was able to start and drive home this evening.
The car turns over very well and there is a new battery so I don't suspect the cable.
Since the problem is intermittent and I have some false dash messages (brake, side marker ...) I'm going to start with where there is a connector/s that might intersect, such as a canbus junction or termination. But I think I have this years WIS so I'll need that to track down where the various connectors are. I believe I read on another post there is one under the battery tray and the intermediate steering shaft was replaced a couple months ago so might be a good place to look.

I knew my 97 very well but the 2007 is a totally diff beast to diagnose.
