I've taken it out, snapped open the case of the ISM and cleaned it. I've done that kind of thing on a lot of electrical parts before, and this one didn't have any surprises. Watch for springs as you open anything like that.
I didn't take photos, & it was a few years ago so I don't remember much detail. The spring underneath that little button isn't very tight, so it seems unlikely that the spring is broken. Probably just dirt interfering with the movement.
Spraying electrical cleaner might do it, but I think I'd be stingy with the amount of spray. There was grease on some of the other contacts (probably to prevent corrosion) and you don't want to wash that away.
