I had to replace an ECU on my 2006 9-3 2.0T and it was a fairly simple process without having to match part numbers and no need for Tech 2.
Check out https://www.trionictuning.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=8094&start=130
I bought a used ECU from a junk yard and flashed it using the instructions from site above. Don't go to Ebay for these ECU's. They are all dead on Ebay. I tried 2 different ones before doing a junkyard search.
From memory if you have Trionic 8 any Trionic 8 ECU will work. Just buy the recommended cable, download the flasher software to your laptop and follow the instructions. The whole process takes about 1/2 hour.
There are some Youtube videos too showing the process.
