Final Update- Timing tool worked! Posted by Michel_DDO [Email] (#2328) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Michel_DDO) on Thu, 3 Feb 2022 18:49:08 In Reply to: You are right Bernie..., Michel_Mtl, Sun, 23 Jan 2022 15:22:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Yes I should have listened to Anders and Jimmy.
You NEED that timing tool!
Just to make a test before loosing the sproket bolt, I put the exhaust timig tool over the cam. It fitted perfectly! But as soon I put pressure on the tool, I saw the chain and sproket starting to move. Not that much but I knew then that the timing was wrong.
Without the tool I was so carefull and put marks everywhere but I guess when tightning the sproket bolt it is impossible to stand still everything. With the timing tool on and a spanner, the camshaft is rock solid and doesn't move at all while torquing the sproket bolt.
Ajusted both cam, re-installed everything and started the car.
The idle was not perfect but after erasing the error code it was fine.
If I had to do everything again, it will be much easier and faster. Instead of losing time to figure out how to remove a bolt, I would remove and/or push away parts. I would remove that water pump pipe that goes to the thermostat housing. I had an issue that took me 2 days with my crankshaft pulley/ timing cover. Had to go to the junkyard a couple of time to remove the parts myself (in the Canadian winter).
If the engine mount is removed, changing the water pump by the top is the way to go.
Replacing chain guides was pretty easy. Replacing balance and timing chain was easy too (if you don't remove the timing sproket).
That's all!
Hope that it will help people!
