Gordon and Dean, the dour folks who are against coasting obviously don't enjoy life. Don't they remember being a kid on a bike? There is such a thing as an overabundance of caution. Indeed, I am surprised that someone from Vermont would not understand that there are some beautiful backwoods coasting roads, where the slope is gentle enough that one could, in the days of simpler cars, go into neutral and turn the engine off, and then slip through the woods with nothing but the sound of the trees and the birds. (Now one must be careful about that pesky ignition lock.) California also has roads where one can coast for miles in silence. Cars are better these days, and I guess we can't turn them off. I'll take the new cars anyday, but still, something has been lost.
